Guild Board - Leadership Team

Cheryl - Guild Co-President & Co-Retreat Chair

Who is your favorite designer? I have many! Blackbird Designs, Needlework Press, Scarlett House, La-D-Da, Stacy Nash, Hands Across the Sea and so many more!

Do you have a favorite sampler style? (i.e. Quaker, Exact Reproductions, Scottish, French, Adam & Eve, ones with houses, ones with birds, etc.) Reproduction Samplers - they bring together so much history of women, and the societal changes for women. The discovery of this history is one of my pleasures in stitching these pieces of history. I would suggest to anyone in starting to stitch a sampler to find one that speaks to you - especially if you know the story behind it.

How long have you been stitching? I have been cross stitching since 1980, but always had a needle in my hand from a young age - with embroidery for doll clothes and accessories.

What about being part of the Guild is special to you? Being a member of TSGG feeds my stitchy side of creativity. The community of members brings together so many talents, stitched pieces, and encouragement (aka enabling!).

Lorraine - Co-President & Co-Retreat Chair

Who is your favorite designer? Too many to choose from! Blackbird Designs, The Scarlett Letter, La-D-Da, Shakespeare’s Peddler, Stacy Nash, Brenda Gervais…

Do you have a favorite sampler style? (i.e. Quaker, Exact Reproductions, Scottish, French, Adam & Eve, ones with houses, ones with birds, etc.) Here again, a lot! I love samplers! I guess I’m mostly fond of reproductions or Adam & Eve.

What is your favorite fabric count? 36 or 40, but I am anxious to try some higher count!

What about being part of the Guild is special to you? The special friends I have made. Before I joined the guild, NONE of my friends were stitchers. Now, most of my friends are stitchers!

Beth - Vice President & Programs Chair

Who is your favorite designer? Mill Hill and Hands on Design

Do you have a favorite sampler style? (i.e. Quaker, Exact Reproductions, Scottish, French, Adam & Eve, ones with houses, ones with birds, etc.) I’m not a sampler girl. I like whimsical pieces and almost anything Christmas related.

Do you stitch in hand or use a hoop or frame? I stitch in hand.

What advice would you give a new stitcher or an experienced stitcher who is about to start stitching samplers? If it’s a large piece, take the time to grid the fabric. It has saved me so many times from having to “frog” a large section because I miscounted. I grid with a thread close to the color of the fabric and snip and pull it out as I go.

Do you have a favorite sampler style? (i.e. Quaker, Exact Reproductions, Scottish, French, Adam & Eve, ones with houses, ones with birds, etc.) Band samplers, birds, houses, beautiful borders, etc.

Do you stitch in-hand or use a hoop or frame? in hand, unless it is needlepoint, then stretcher bars or roller frames

Do you have a favorite thread brand? if so - what makes it your favorite? My favorite is Soie d’Alger by Au Ver A Soie Silk (AVAS). I love the beautiful colors they offer and the luster of the threads. AVAS silk threads are very consistent in their texture and don’t have areas of heavy or thin threads that I have encountered with other silk threads.

Do you have a favorite sampler style? (i.e. Quaker, Exact Reproductions, Scottish, French, Adam & Eve, ones with houses, ones with birds, etc.) I like the more modern style samplers inspired by the vintage ones - Long Dog Samplers is one of my favorite designers. I am also very obsessed with Blackwork

How long have you been stitching? My Mom (Kathy) taught me when I was 7.

Do you stitch in-hand or use a hoop or frame? Frame - I prefer the Q-Snaps frames - 8” is my go-to unless it’s a smaller project.

What about being part of the Guild is special to you? The breadth of knowledge and interests in this wonderful group of ladies is amazing - just talking with people and learning their tips/tricks, favorite designers, threads, fabric etc. Not to mention their knowledge of sampler history and types of samplers.
